How an attic works

Attic spaces are ventilated because there is a large risk of leakage. If that risk did not exist there would be no ventilation in the attic. In a leakage free attic the ventilation can only provide moisture, but in an attic with either leakage of damp air from below or water leakage through the roof, the ventilation can improve the situation. Both poor workmanship and the wear and aging of materials can cause leakage. That is the reason why, historically, attics are built with a lot of ventilation. Unfortunately, the ventilation itself makes the risk of damp related damages high, at least 50%. The only possibility to achieve safe ventilation is to control it the way that Climacure Attic does, by only ventilating when it is drier outside than inside.
